Atlanta, GA, triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif at Y Plastic Surgery, is pleased to now offer the revolutionary ThermiVa, a nonsurgical, noninvasive treatment used to comfortably, safely, and effectively tighten loose, stretched vaginal muscles and labial tissue. Pregnancy, childbirth, genetics, menopause, and natural aging can affect the elasticity and strength of the internal and external vaginal tissue, which decrease sexual sensation and may cause vaginal dryness, incontinence, and other concerns.
ThermiVa is a procedure that can increase collagen in the vaginal tissue, which tightens and smooths the loose skin. ThermiVa safely heats the internal and/or external vaginal tissue with radiofrequency (RF) energy to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin in the tissue. The increased collagen and elastin will improve the elasticity and strength of the vaginal tissue, which will tighten loose skin and improve sensations. ThermiVa is a safe, effective procedure that can help a woman look and feel better without surgery or downtime.
Ideal Candidates
Studies indicate that ThermiVa treatments can aid candidates who believe their vaginal muscles have stretched due to childbirth, menopause, and/or other causes and can also help with mild urinary incontinence. ThermiVa is best for patients who have mild to moderate vaginal skin laxity. ThermiVa can be better for women than a labiaplasty if they are unsure about having more children, want a less expensive option, and want to avoid surgery and recovery time. The ideal candidate will:
- Be finished with planned pregnancies
- Wait 2 – 3 months after childbirth
- Have decreased sexual sensations or sexual dysfunction
- Have loose internal or external vaginal tissue
What to Expect
ThermiVa is performed at the office in three 15 – 30 minute sessions that are spaced at least one month apart. The ThermiVa wand is passed over the external skin of the vagina and gently inserted into the internal areas of the vagina. The treatment wand uses a built-in thermometer to ensure the skin is heated to the correct temperature and does not burn the skin. Patients can continue their normal activities, but it is best to avoid sex for at least a day after the treatment.

Anticipated Results
Patients should see and feel their final results about 2 – 3 weeks after their final ThermiVa treatment. Results from ThermiVa can last up to 2 years and can be maintained with follow-up treatments, as needed. ThermiVa does not affect a woman’s ability to get pregnant or have a natural childbirth, but the results will be altered and the patient may need a full set of ThermiVa treatments if she has additional pregnancies.
