Atlanta Facelift
Women and men from Marietta and throughout the metro Atlanta area come to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Asaf Yalif for facelift surgery at his Alpharetta, Roswell, and Woodstock, GA, practice because they trust him to create the more youthful, yet natural look they want. He minimizes wrinkles and fine lines, restores youthful contours, and tightens loose, sagging skin to take years off without obvious signs of surgery. Combined with nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, such as fillers, a facelift is an extremely effective procedure.
Ideal Atlanta Facelift Candidates
Men and women often consider facelift surgery when they become concerned about signs of aging that make them look older than they feel. Patients often ask if they’re either too young or too old for a facelift, but age isn’t really an important factor when determining who are good facelift candidates. Someone in their mid-40s who is thinking about a nonsurgical treatment may be better off with the long-lasting results that a facelift produces. You’re likely a good candidate for a facelift if you:
- Have wrinkles, lines, or sagging skin in the lower portion of your face
- Feel like signs of aging hinder you socially or professionally
- Want long-lasting results
- Have realistic expectations
Being in good overall health and a non-smoker are also prerequisites for a facelift. Smokers not only experience more post-op complications than other patients but can expect shorter-lived results.
Understanding Your Facelift Procedure
The difference between facelift techniques used 10 to 15 years ago and those used today is significant. When performed by a highly qualified and experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Yalif, a facelift can produce remarkable results and take several years off your appearance. Many types of facelift techniques exist, including some that promise more than they can deliver. Dr. Yalif primarily uses a technique called a SMAS lift which he customizes based on each patient’s specific concerns. SMAS is short for the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a layer of tissue and muscle just below the skin.
During the procedure, you’ll be under general anesthesia. Dr. Yalif begins by making an incision at the temple, above the hairline. He then extends it along your skin’s natural crease in front of the ear, below the earlobe, and finishing behind the ear. The incision is virtually imperceptible after it heals. Dr. Yalif carefully exposes the SMAS layer, which he lifts, repositions, and tightens before re-draping the skin. He removes excess skin and then sutures the incisions, being careful to avoid a tight, or “windswept” appearance. A SMAS lift minimizes the appearance of jowls and sagging in the mid-face. Dr. Yalif can also modify the procedure to tighten loose neck skin. The procedure typically takes about 4 hours.
“Dr. Yalif took the time to explain what could be done to address the issues I had and corrected all of them. Thanks to Dr. Yalif I now love my new look.”

Request Your ConsultationCan a Facelift Be Combined With Other Procedures?
It’s fairly common to combine a facelift with other surgical or nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures. A facelift only addresses the lower portion of the face, but signs of aging typically occur around the eyes and forehead at the same pace. Dr. Yalif can discuss all of your cosmetic concerns during the consultation and then recommend a comprehensive treatment plan, which may include combining your facelift with:
- Eyelid surgery to correct droopy upper eyelids and puffy under-eye bags.
- Brow lift to raise a heavy browline and open the eye area.
- Injectable fillers to add volume under the eyes or in the cheek areas.
Dr. Yalif may also suggest a regular schedule of periodic treatments to help maintain the results of your surgery.
How Long Does It Take to Recover From a Facelift?
You’ll return home on the day of the surgery after spending time in the recovery room. Dr. Yalif places a dressing on the surgical site that remains until the initial follow-up appointment. He provides detailed post-op instructions that help you recover with as little discomfort as possible. Swelling and bruising may last for up to 2 weeks after the surgery, but you may be able to return to work earlier. The initial results of the facelift can be seen after about 3 weeks, but the full results may take several more weeks to develop.
If you’re planning to get a facelift before a significant social event, such as a wedding or class reunion, it’s best to schedule it at least a few months earlier to ensure you are completely healed.
