Women with very large, heavy breasts often live with numerous symptoms that impact their lives. Triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Asaf Yalif offers breast reduction surgery to help women from the Atlanta metro area reduce the size of their breasts and live more comfortably. This surgery can increase your ability to move more freely with less pain, improve your posture, allow you to fit into appropriately sized clothes, and free you to stand tall when you walk into the room without all of the stares and attention that large breasts can bring. Breast reduction surgery is a common procedure at Y Plastic Surgery and one that successfully reshapes the breasts to create a beautiful, younger-looking bustline.
When your neck and back hurt, quality of life is reduced. When you are in pain, your movements are limited, your posture is slumped, and you generally do not feel well. Women with large breasts often experience this pain on a daily basis. Some women, through no fault of their own, cannot correct this issue with diet and exercise alone. If you experience the following symptoms from having large, heavy breasts, you may be an ideal candidate for breast reduction surgery:
- Irritation and rashes on the skin underneath the bra
- Diet and exercise have been unsuccessful in decreasing the size of the breasts
- Breasts disproportionate to the body frame
- Weight of the breasts triggering pain
- Bra strap trenches in the shoulders from wearing a constricting bra
- Limitations on activity because of the size of the breasts
- Poor posture
What to Expect
Using state-of-the-art surgical techniques that limit the risks of surgery, our plastic surgeon will skillfully remove excess skin and suction out tissue to reshape the breast. During this surgery, it is common to use one of the following incision approaches:
- An incision around the areola
- A vertical incision from the bottom of the areola to the breast line
- A horizontal incision on the breast line (underneath the breast)
Liposuction may be used to safely remove fat tissue from within the breast. Excess skin will be removed, and then a breast lift is usually needed to attain a healthy-looking result. It is common for women requesting this procedure to reduce their breasts by one to two cup sizes.
After a two to four hour breast reduction surgery, you will wake up in recovery and feel immediately lighter in the chest area. You will be instructed on how to properly care for your incisions to limit scarring. After being sent home wrapped in a surgical compression garment and sports bra, it is advised that you take it easy for the first few weeks following the surgery. Expect to feel less sensation in your nipples, which will take up to a year to recover and regain their sensitivity. Breast reduction patients should not return to work for seven to 10 days postoperation and wait six to eight weeks before resuming physical activities.

Breast reduction surgery can dramatically change a woman’s life, resulting in smaller breasts that allow everyday activities to become easier. Continue to wear comfortable bras and limit strenuous activity in the first few weeks and months following the procedure. Once exercise can be worked back into your day-to-day life, it is important to maintain a healthy weight. Breast reduction surgery is a long-lasting cosmetic surgery, however, the results can be negatively impacted by weight gain and/or pregnancy.
