Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad term we use at Y Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery to help patients understand how we make the vagina more youthful in appearance, as well as potentially feel more enjoyable during intercourse. A vaginoplasty corrects a vagina that is naturally large in diameter, is stretched out, or left with loose skin after childbirth. This procedure by our triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaf Yalif, tightens and restores the vaginal area. The benefits of this surgery are the increase of sexual self-confidence and sexual gratification for the woman and her partner. Consulting with Dr. Yalif at our office in Woodstock or Roswell, GA, who has many years of experience, is generally the next step. Depending on the severity of the skin, he may also recommend other vaginal rejuvenation techniques available (labiaplasty or a mommy makeover) for areas that need it most.

Surgical Technique

A vaginoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1 – 2 hours for the operation. Our plastic surgeon may require the patient to stay overnight in the hospital for observation. During the procedure, the loose skin surrounding the vaginal opening will be removed and the muscles will be tightened on the inside and outside of the vagina. The incision will be stitched up with dissolvable sutures.

Vaginoplasty patients are usually released to return to work 5 – 7 days after the procedure. Until the sutures have dissolved (in about 6 weeks), heavy lifting, exercise, and sexual activity should be avoided. In less than 1% of the patients who have the vaginoplasty surgery, complications occurred, such as temporary bleeding, infection, and wound reopening. We give all patients strict instructions and precautions regarding care of the area and adequate pain medication to keep them comfortable during their recovery.

Vaginoplasty FAQs

Will Childbirth Ruin the Surgery?

Women can still have children after vaginoplasty, but it is recommended that these women not plan pregnancies after this procedure. Why? A vaginal birth will reduce the effectiveness of the vaginoplasty, and it may require a second surgery to repair the damage.

What if I Need More Than One Surgery?

A labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation can be done at the same time if recommended by the plastic surgeon. Our practice offers a variety of skin tightening services that can be completed at the same time (such as a tummy tuck or breast lift). Our team will be happy to answer all of your questions during your initial consultation.
